Tutorial - Colorblock Nails

Remember these colorful lime and yellow colorblock nails back from April, I received so much love for them that I decided to create a Pictorial (picture tutorial) for these nails.

For this nail art you will need -
1. Stripping Tape.
2. 4 nail polishes.
3. Top Coat.

Step 1: For this mani I started by painting my nails with a white polish since I wanted white lines in my nail art. I used Butter London's Cotton Buds.

Step 2: Once the polish was dry I added stripping tape in the pattern of white lines shown in the picture. Mainly I divided the nails in 3 block's diagonally, one for each color. Then added veritcal stripes to achieve the vertical white lines effect.

Step 3: Then doing one nail at a time, starting from the nail bed, I painted my nails dark green in the bottom most block. I used OPI's Jade is the new Black for this dark green color.

Step 4: In the second block I added the light green shade. For this I used Sally Hansen's Green with Envy.

Step 5: In the third or remaining blocks I added yellow polish. I used Zoya's Darcy for that.

Step 6: After step 5, I immediately took out the stripping tape and did not let the polish go dry. Make sure you take out the last tape stripe first as it would get caught underneath another piece of tape that was applied after it. You might want to avoid that. If you do get caught in that situation, you just need to stop peeling a piece when it gets caught (leave it halfway peeled) and come back to remove it once the tape above it has been removed.

Step 7: Now if you are as messy as me, don't be alarmed to find that polish was applied outside the nails too. Just take some polish remover in a thin brush or q-tips and clean around the nails.

That's it. Now repeat this process for all the remaining 9 finger nails (Yeah, no body said that nail art was THAT easy). Doing this on all 10 fingers took a long time but the effect was totally worth it.

One Stroke Nail Art

I was shocked to realize I had never tried the one stroke nail art technique before today so I decided to give it a try. Now this was really something, took me a couple of tries to get it right especially with nail polishes. Most of the nail artists try it with acrylic paint. But I stick to nail polishes for my nail art.

To start with I painted my nails with Maybelline’s Onyx Rush and let it dry. After that following the one stroke flower nail art technique, I took 2 different colors (Sinfulcolors Snow Me White and Sunset) on either end of the brush and did continuous strokes with the brush to create the flower petals. I repeated it till the flower was complete and added dots in the middle and sides. It was harder to create the same design on my right hand using my left hand.

I like how this turned out considering it was my first attempt with one stroke nail art. I am glad the colors I chose as well for this. They really compliment one another.

Multi-color Leaves

I have been scratching my head and thinking really hard lately to come up with unique, never seen before designs. And I am not always successful. But this time I was. I came up with these pretty (If I may say-so my self) feather-like multi-color leaves and decided to give them a try right away.

I started with a base coat of Maybelline's Naturally Cream from their "the nude" collection. You can see it's swatch here. Once it was dry, using the lighter color in the color-combo, with a thin nail art brush, I painted the leaves freehand. Then using the darker color, I added leaves at random places. And once it was dry I added my favorite top coat. The polishes that I have used for Blue leaves are - Wet n Wild's I need a Refresh-mint and Sally Hansen's Blue Me Away. For pink leaves - Revlon's Cupid and Plum Seduction.

Maybelline's Naturally Cream

I have been looking for the perfect beige polish for my collection from a long time and recently came across "the nudes" collection from Maybelline and found this lovely shade called Naturally Cream from the collection. It’s a beautiful shade of beige and you require only 2 coats to get it opaque. I am a bit late in doing the swatch for this, and have already used it in a number of nail art’s. You can see me using it before with the OPI muppets most wanted collection here and stay tuned for more nail art’s incorporating this nail lacquer.

I Dream of Color

Inspirations can be found anywhere. Inspiration for nail art is everywhere.
That’s what today’s blog post is all about. I bought this pretty, colorful tribal print wooden bangle from Forever 21 back in 2011, for a very reasonable price, when tribal print was becoming a fad. I have worn it so many times since then and last week when I took it out of my collection I realized once again how beautiful this single bangle was. Then I thought how much fun it will be to create this beautiful, colorful tribal print design on my nails. And since then I have been thinking about how to recreate it and what polishes to use from my stash. So this past Thursday I sat down with my nail polishes and nail art brushes and created (free-hand) this lovely tribal print on my nails.

Love, Love, Love how this design turned out on my nails. It was even more fun while doing it. After I finished working on it, I proudly showed it to my hubby who agreed that it had turned out beautifully. So get ready to see loads and loads of this design in this post.
