Tutorial: Matte Colorblock Nails

Hi Friends, I created a step-by-step tutorial for you all for the Matte colorblock nail art from my last post.

For this nail art you would need -
1. Nail Polishes.
2. Stripping Tape.
3. Top Coat.
4. Base Coat.
5. Scissors.

Step 1. To start, first paint your nails with a base coat to protect your nails.

Step 2. When the base coat is dry, on top of it paint your nails with a base polish. I used Maybelline's Naturally Creme. Make sure you polish dries completely, before you attempt step 3.

Step 3. Cut the stripping tape using scissors into two stripes and stick them on the nail side by side (as shown in the picture below). Make sure they are sticking to the nail and are not loose.

Step 4. On the wide block of the taped nail, paint with the bright nail polish. I used American Apparel's Blueberry.

Step 5. On the middle thin block of the taped nail, paint it with the blue nail polish. I used American Apparel's Peacock.

Step 6. Now quickly remove the tape and voila! the desired colorblocked nails. Now top it with Matte top coat for Matte version of the nails or with a regular top coat for glossy version of the nails.

Don't forget to share pictures with me if you try this design. If you have any comments about this tutorial or would like to see any specific nail art tutorials, then leave suggestions in the comments section below.

Matte

Matte nails have been popular for a while. To create them you dont need a bunch of Matte polishes, just the right Matte top coat. So today, using my Matte top coat from Butter London, I turned my glossy nails to matte nails. The polishes I used are - base coat is Maybelline's Naturally Creme, American Apparel's Peacock and Blueberry.

Here is a glossy version of the nails -

Which one do you like better? Matte or Glossy version?

-ve space nails

Trying my hand at creating negative(-ve) space nails. What are negative space nails you ask? It's a nail art design where some of the nail space is left blank without any polish on them and your uncolored nail peeps through bold polish colors like cutouts in clothes. The possibilities are endless when you want to create a -ve space nail design and I decided to try this colorblocked pink and green -ve space look. The polishes I used are Zoya's Lolly and Butter London's Jaded Jack and Fruit Machine, which pop very well and look bright when used together. There are some minor mistakes in this design but I choose to ignore them ;P and share it with you all anyways. Hope you like them.

Book Review: The Accidental Apprentice

Hello Friends, I received a overwhelming response from my last review (Thank You Readers) so I decide to post another review of the book that I finished reading yesterday. "The Accidental Apprentice" by Vikas Swarup. This is his third book, he is famous for his first book called "Q & A" which was later made into the Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire. The Accidental Apprentice was released in 2013 and it was recently that I came across the title and decided to give it a read. Even though I have watched Slumdog Millionaire, this is my first book that I read by the author.

From the beginning the book is easy to read with a story of seven tests, given to the main character named Sapna Sinha. She is a normal salesgirl at one of India’s many electronics shops when she is approached one day by a man named Vinay Mohan Acharya, supposed head board member in charge of the ABC Group. Vinay Mohan Acharya offers to Sapna, if she can past his seven tests that he will make her the CEO of the ABC Group, which comes with a multi-million dollar yearly salary. And hence starts the tests and the story proceeds. The story gets very addicting and can be called sort of a thriller to read. At the end I was convinced the story has enough masala and thrill to be made into a Bollywood movie, only to read somewhere that they are making a movie already, based on this book.

Parts of the book will make you cry with Sapna and her family, others will make you frustrated with the description of corruption happening in the country. The book builds up nicely, with Sapna’s tests becoming more and more personal and harder to separate from, and the climax was something which I never expected - which made me like the book even more. I would rate this book 4/5.

Something New

When out of ideas - experiment with dots - create something new and Ta Da...my new nail art. I started experimenting the nail art design on my thumb and didnt like the way it turned out. But that didnt stop me from proceeding and the result was the nail art on my other fingers. Sometimes you just start with something else on your mind and end with something totally new and unexpected but in this case - something Good. Enough of somethings? The polishes I used are Butter London's Cotton Buds, Chanel's Dragon (I am almost out of this polish , have to buy a replacement soon), America Apparel's Peacock, Orly's Yellow Submarine and Sally Hansen's Wet Cement.

DIY – Polka Dots Shoes

If you follow my blog - you must be familiar with my love for Polka Dots. From Polka Dots dresses, skirts, multiple tops, bed sheets, accessories, cushions, you name it and I have it. The only thing missing from my life were Polka Dots shoes. I have been in search for the perfect Polka Dot shoes since as long as I can remember and haven’t found any yet. Either the heels are too high, shoes are too uncomfortable or the toe is too pointy for my taste. I just cant seem to find any. When I was going through my shoe closet last week, I found these black flats which I haven’t worn – well since I bought them, coz I never really liked them and then I forgot about them…well you know how it goes. I looked at them, wore them for one day and they were surprisingly very comfortable. And then it occurred to me – how about give them a little make over and create polka dot shoes, which I always wanted. So I ran to my nearest Michael’s crafts store and bought this white fabric paint for $2.45 and Ta-Da … after 15 mins of my time I have brand new polka dots shoes which I ALWAYS wanted.

HERE is a DIY tutorial on how to make these.

You need –

1. Old shoes that you want to revamp.
2. Pencil or any other thing you can use to create dots.
3. Fabric Paint
4. Old newspaper to do your project on.
5. Some paper plate to mix the paint on.

Step 1 – Get your shoe that you want to paint ready. Make sure it is clean.

Step 2 – Get all the supplies ready. Put the paint on the paper plate and dip the round –sided tip in the paint. Then start creating random dots on your shoes.

Step 3 – repeat the process on the 2nd pair. Once you are finished, let them dry for a day.

Step 4 – All done. Now show-off your NEW DIY project by wearing them out with your favorite dress/outfit :) :) Simple isn’t it.

Argyle

Argyle Pattern is very very common in USA. From sweaters to Bedspreads, you can find it on a lot of things. I have been meaning to try this on my nails and decided to give it a try finally. This is the color palette that I decided to use. Sally Hansen's Wet Cement and Blue Me Away, Butter London's Cotton Buds. I love how this turned out, I used a very very thin nail art brush for this pattern. Hope you all like it as well.

Book Review: Scion Of Ikshvaku

Hello Friends, the book that I am reviewing today is the first book in Amish Tripathi's Ram Chandra Series called 'Scion of Ikshvaku'. If you follow Indian authors, you would know that Amish Tripathi is famous for his Shiva Trilogy books. Scion Of Ikshvaku, his latest book, released on 22 June 2015, is a mythological thriller based on Lord Ram, the legendary Indian king regarded as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

The plot is the story of Ramayana told through the modern eyes. Different mythological characters are shown as real life people with real feelings in this book. Lot of philosophical discussions between the brothers and some characters, which I couldn't help but feel are related to current social problems of India. The narration is very good and the best thing I like about Amish's books is the strong portrayal of female characters, be it Parvati from Shiva Series or Sita from this book. Amish Tripathi is definitely literary pop star (as mentioned elsewhere). I am now eagerly waiting for the 2nd installment of this book.
